Ward Design Group assisted the Architect in designing concert hall seating for comfort and sightlines, and designed performance lighting systems and the rigging for the acoustical features which give the hall great flexibility in its natural acoustics.
The Herbert Zipper Concert Hall is a 415-seat intimate theatre that accommodates a wide array of events, including music, dance, lectures, meetings and teleconferences. The Hall has also been used by many television and film productions, including The West Wing, The District, and Adaptation.
The Hall is acoustically designed for a range of recital, orchestral and chamber music programs. The ceiling rises more than 60 feet over the stage, 16 feet above the acoustically transparent trellis. The "clouds" over the stage are acoustical elements which, along with more than 6,000 square feet of motorized heavy velour drapery, can be adjusted to "tune" the hall.
The Orchestra Rehearsal Hall is an ideal rehearsal space for up to a 50-piece orchestra. Features include adjustable acoustical drapery, and a splendid view of The Walt Disney Concert Hall and the City of Los Angeles
The Mayman Recital Hall is an intimate 100 seat hall with an acoustical ceiling is perfect for auditions, small recitals, and lectures with video presentations.
The project received a US Institute for Theatre Technology Architectural Merit Award for 2000.
